Strategy & Consulting

Executive and fractional leadership

Senior technology leadership when you need it, accountable for the result

Critical decisions without the right leader in the room

Many organisations must choose platforms, govern AI and manage cyber risk without a CTO, chief AI officer or CISO on staff. Hiring one takes time, and the decisions cannot wait.

Others have a programme that is late, over budget or stalled after a vendor left. They need someone senior to take control, find out what is true and get delivery moving again.

What you get

  1. Senior leadership now

An experienced virtual CTO, CDTO, CAIO or vCISO working with your board and teams.

  2. Technology choices on evidence

Technology choices made on evidence, with a path from legacy systems to an AI-native stack.

  3. Delivery you can see

Programme governance that shows real progress, with risks raised early.

  4. A programme back on track

A troubled programme stabilised, with a candid view of what to keep, fix or rebuild.

What we deliver

  • Virtual CTO, CDTO, CAIO and vCISO

A fractional chief technology, digital and transformation, AI or information security officer who sets direction, chairs decisions and leads your teams.

  • Technology selection and stack strategy

Platform, vendor and build-or-buy choices compared on your requirements, and a strategy to move from legacy systems to an AI-native stack.

  • Agile project management and PMO set-up

An enterprise project management office (PMO) with agile delivery, clear milestones and governance that reports progress on working software.

  • Delivery governance and programme rescue

Troubled programmes taken in hand: scope, code, contracts and team reviewed, a recovery plan agreed and delivery restarted.

How it works

For a failing system, the Brownfield Diagnostic Bridge audits the codebase, data, integrations and security before anyone commits to a fixed price for the rescue.

  1. Agree the mandate

We agree the role, its decision rights, the people it works with and the results it is measured on.

  2. Assess the situation

We review strategy, architecture, delivery, contracts and risks, and interview the people closest to the work.

  3. Set direction

We put the decisions in front of your board or executives, with the options, their risks and our recommendation.

  4. Lead the delivery

We run governance, unblock teams and vendors, and report progress against milestones you can verify.

  5. Hand over

When a permanent leader joins, we hand over the decisions, the records and the open risks.

Technologies and standards

Our leaders are principal architects, fractional CTOs and CAIOs, and security specialists who stay accountable through execution, not consultants who deliver slides and leave.

Roles
  • Virtual CTO
  • Chief Digital and Transformation Officer (CDTO)
  • Chief AI Officer (CAIO)
  • Virtual CISO (vCISO)
  • Enterprise PMO and delivery governance

How to start

A fractional leader usually joins as an embedded specialist. A programme rescue often starts with a brownfield diagnostic of the failing system.

What happens next

  1. Agreeing a time

Our team emails you to agree a time for the session.

  2. Pre-consulting session

A free 30-minute online pre-consulting session: we go through your goals, systems and constraints.

  3. Readiness review

In a free 48-hour readiness review, a Principal Architect checks your project against the 6-point Definition of Ready and recommends the track that fits.

  4. Choosing the track

Scope-ready projects receive a binding proposal within 3–5 business days. Concept-stage projects start in the Blueprint Studio. A live system that is failing, undocumented or needs integration starts with a diagnostic of 1–2 weeks. The Blueprint Studio and the diagnostic each have a fixed fee, quoted in the proposal.

  • Embedded specialists and strategic augmentation

Nearshore and on-site principal engineers and specialists, and embedded solution, transformation, PQC and integration architects.

Questions and answers

Which leadership roles can you fill?

A virtual chief technology officer (CTO), chief digital and transformation officer (CDTO), chief AI officer (CAIO) or virtual chief information security officer (vCISO). We match the role to the decisions you face.

When does a fractional leader make sense?

When you need senior judgement now, but not a full-time hire yet. Typical moments are a platform choice, an AI programme, a security incident, a stalled programme or the gap before a permanent leader joins.

Is your advice independent of the products you recommend?

Yes. Recommendations follow your requirements, including when buying a product fits better than building one. Every recommendation comes with its options and reasons in writing.

Our programme is failing. Where do you start?

With the facts. We review the scope, code, data, contracts and team, then tell you plainly whether to rescue, refactor or rebuild. For a live system, the Brownfield Diagnostic Bridge does this before any fixed-price proposal.

Can you set up a PMO for us?

Yes. We set up an enterprise PMO with agile delivery, milestone governance, risk logs and reporting. Progress is shown in working software and live demonstrations, never only in status slides.

Will the fractional leader work with our existing teams and vendors?

Yes. The role leads your people and holds vendors to their commitments. Where you need more capacity, our engineering divisions can add it, but the leader’s advice does not depend on it.

What happens when we hire a permanent leader?

We hand over the decisions taken, the records behind them and the open risks, and we brief your new leader. The engagement can end there, or continue as advisory support.

Start with a conversation, not a contract.

Tell us what you need to build, connect or secure. An architect goes through it with you, then recommends where to start.
