Interim Technology Leadership

Senior technology leadership for the decisions that cannot wait for a permanent hire.

Why It Matters

Many organisations must choose platforms, set AI direction and manage cyber risk without a chief technology officer on staff. A permanent hire takes months, and these decisions cannot wait. Boards still expect answers this quarter, with evidence behind them.

Interim leadership goes wrong when the role is set up badly. A leader arrives without the authority to decide, a programme reports progress nobody can check, or the handover to a permanent hire never happens. Each failure leaves the same problem for the next leader.

What We Do

  • A senior leader who runs the technology estate and its decisions while you find the permanent person.

  • Security leadership that keeps decisions moving through a transition and prepares the team for the next incident.

  • A leader who sets how AI is chosen, built and governed, and connects the work to a clear business result.

  • A leader who joins digital work to the business plan and the measures it must move.

  • An independent choice of platform or partner, with the options, costs and reasons written down.

What Changes for You

  1. An experienced chief technology officer or chief information officer works with your board and teams. They take decisions from the first week, not after a long induction.

  2. Every platform and partner choice comes with its options and reasons in writing. You can defend each decision to the board and to your own teams.

  3. Programmes report real progress, and risks reach you early. A weekly rhythm keeps decisions moving and shows what changed.

When to Bring Us In

Bring us in when a decision is too important to leave open. We can usually start within days.

  • A Decision Is Due

You must choose a platform, a partner or a direction before the board meets. The options are complex, and the board needs a recommendation with evidence.

  • A Leader Is Leaving

The permanent hire is months away, and the team needs direction now. We hold the role until your new leader arrives.

  • A Programme Has Stalled

Delivery has slipped, costs have risen and the team has lost confidence. We find the cause and agree a recovery plan with owners and dates.

The Decisions We Help You Make

We put the choice in front of you with the evidence, not with a sales story.

  • Platform and Vendor Choice

We compare the real options on your requirements. You see the costs, risks and exit routes side by side. You decide, and we record the reasons.

  • AI Direction

We set what AI should do first, what it must not do and who owns it. The plan names the data, controls and people it needs. You approve the first use case before any build starts.

  • Security and Risk

We name the risks that matter and the decisions that reduce them. Each risk gets an owner and a date. You decide the risk you can accept.

How an Engagement Runs

An engagement is a fixed mandate with a clear end. You know the role, the results and the length before we start.

  • Agree the Mandate

We write down the role, its decision rights and the results it is measured on. You provide the business goals, the budget limits and the people who can decide. You approve the mandate before we start.

  • Work to a Rhythm

A weekly decision meeting keeps choices moving and records what was agreed. You provide a chair with authority to decide and the people who own the work. The record stays with your team after we leave.

  • Hand Over

When a permanent leader joins, we pass on the decisions, the records and the open risks. You decide the start date and the overlap you want. We stay available for that short overlap.

Who You Work With

The leader you need, for as long as you need. We match the person to the decisions you face.

  • A technology leader who runs the estate, the team and the vendor relationships. They report to your board and give it plain answers.

  • A security leader who sets the controls, the risks and the response. They prepare the team for the next incident, not only the last one.

  • A leader who decides how AI is chosen, built and governed. They connect the model work to a clear business result.

Questions

The questions leaders ask before they bring us in.

What does an interim leader cost, and how is the work priced?

The fee depends on the role, the decisions in scope and the time you need. We agree a fixed mandate, an end date and the results it is measured on before we start. Our advice stays independent, and you see the reasons for each recommendation in writing.

How quickly can you start, and which roles can you fill?

We cover chief technology, information, security, digital and AI officer roles. You meet the person before the engagement starts. We can usually start within days.

How long does an interim leader stay?

The mandate has a fixed end date, agreed before we start. It can cover a platform choice, an AI programme or a leadership gap. We plan the handover from the first week.

Who makes the decisions while you are here?

You do. We bring the evidence and the options, and you decide. Each decision is recorded with its reason, so your team can defend it after we leave.

What is not covered?

We do not replace your permanent accountability or run hands-on delivery. If a programme is failing, we review the facts and set out whether to rescue, refactor or rebuild. The handover to your permanent leader is part of the mandate.
