AI readiness assessment

Find out where AI will pay off, and what has to be true first

An assessment of use cases, data, systems, risk and skills that ends in a prioritised plan with effort estimates.

Overview

Most organisations have more AI ideas than they can fund, and little evidence about which will work. Some ideas depend on data that does not exist yet. Others carry risks nobody has assessed. Starting with the wrong one costs money and goodwill.

The AI readiness assessment gives you that evidence. We collect candidate use cases from the business, then assess each one on value, feasibility, data, the systems it must connect to, regulatory and ethical risk, and the skills needed to run it. We look at your data and platforms directly rather than relying on questionnaires alone.

The result is a ranked list of use cases, the gaps to close for each, a governance approach proportionate to your risks, and a phased plan with effort estimates. You can act on it with XSIS, with another supplier or with your own team.

What we deliver

  1. Use-case inventory

Candidate use cases gathered from the business, each described by its users, decision, data and expected benefit.

  2. Value and feasibility scoring

Each use case scored on value, effort, data readiness and risk, using criteria agreed with your leadership.

  3. Data readiness review

Where the data for the top use cases lives, its quality, ownership and access rules, and what must be fixed.

  4. Platform and integration review

Whether your cloud, data platform and core systems can support AI in production, and what is missing.

  5. Risk and governance review

Privacy, security, regulatory and ethical risks for each use case, and the controls proportionate to them.

  6. Skills and operating model

The roles needed to build and run AI, what you have, and whether to hire, train or partner.

  7. Prioritised roadmap

The use cases in order, with dependencies, decision points and effort estimates for each phase.

  8. Pilot proposal

A detailed proposal for the first use case: scope, evaluation criteria, team and estimate.

How we work

  1. 01

    Align with leadership

We agree the goals, the scoring criteria and the risk appetite with the people who will fund the work.

  2. 02

    Collect use cases

We run workshops with business teams to gather and describe candidate use cases.

  3. 03

    Assess data and systems

We review the data, platforms and integrations behind the strongest candidates, hands on.

  4. 04

    Score and prioritise

We score each use case, review the ranking with your leadership and adjust it to your strategy.

  5. 05

    Plan and present

We present the roadmap, the governance approach and the pilot proposal, and answer your board’s questions.

Questions and answers

Who is the assessment for?

Organisations that want to use AI but are unsure where to begin, have tried pilots that did not reach production, or need to show a board or regulator that AI investment is planned and controlled. It suits companies with significant data and established systems, such as banks, insurers, retailers, manufacturers and public bodies.

What will we have at the end?

A written report and a presentation: the use-case inventory, the scoring and ranking, the data and platform findings, the risks and the controls proportionate to them, the skills assessment, a phased roadmap with effort estimates and a detailed proposal for the first pilot. Your team keeps every document and can share it internally or with other suppliers.

How much does an AI readiness assessment cost?

It is usually a fixed fee for a fixed scope, agreed after a short scoping call. The price depends on the number of business areas involved, how many use cases are assessed in depth and how much hands-on review of your data and systems is needed. You see the price and the timeline before we start.

How long does the assessment take?

It depends on the number of business areas involved and how quickly we can meet their people and reach the data and systems. We agree the workshop schedule and the date of the final presentation at the start. The pace is set mostly by the availability of your teams.

Do you need access to our data?

Some, to judge readiness honestly. We usually need read access to samples, data catalogues or schemas, and time with the people who own the data. We do not copy data out of your environment, we work under a non-disclosure agreement, and access is removed when the assessment ends.

Does the assessment cover regulation and responsible AI?

Yes. For each use case we identify privacy, security, regulatory and ethical risks, such as automated decisions about customers, personal data in prompts or a need for explanations. We then propose controls proportionate to the risk: human review, evaluation, logging and approval steps. Legal interpretation of specific regulations stays with your legal advisers.

Are we committed to XSIS for the work that follows?

No. The roadmap and pilot proposal are yours to deliver with XSIS, another supplier or your own team. If you choose XSIS, the people who did the assessment can stay involved, so knowledge is not lost between planning and delivery.

Will you sign a non-disclosure agreement?

Yes. We will sign a mutual non-disclosure agreement before you share anything confidential, on your template or ours. Everyone who works on your project is bound by confidentiality obligations, whether they are XSIS employees or members of an outsourced team.
