Staff augmentation

Engineers who join your team and work your way

Individual engineers and specialists added to your team, under your management, for as long as you need them.

Overview

Staff augmentation adds engineers and specialists to your own team. They work in your tools, follow your processes and report to your managers. You keep full control of the work. We find the people, employ them and look after them.

It suits teams that know what they need to build but lack a skill or the capacity to build it in time: a senior back-end engineer, a mobile developer, an integration specialist who knows bank formats, a test automation engineer, a cloud engineer.

Every engineer we place is either one of our own or comes from a vetted outsourced team that works under our contract, standards and security rules. You see each person’s profile, you interview them, and you decide.

What we deliver

  1. Role brief

A written description of each role: skills, seniority, responsibilities, working hours and how the person fits into your team.

  2. Candidate profiles

Profiles of the people we propose, with the skills and experience that match your brief, for you to review.

  3. Your interviews

You interview every engineer before they join; no blind placements. You choose who joins.

  4. Onboarding support

A start plan agreed with your manager: introductions, access, first tasks and who answers questions.

  5. Access and security set-up

Named accounts with only the access the role needs, recorded, reviewed and removed at the end of the placement.

  6. Working agreement

Hours, overlap with your team, tools, reporting line and how absences and cover are handled, in writing.

  7. Regular check-ins

Our account contact checks in with you and with the engineer, so small problems are raised early.

  8. Handover at the end

When a placement ends, the engineer documents open work and hands it over to the person you name.

How we work

  1. 01

    Define the role

We agree the skills, seniority, responsibilities and working hours with your hiring manager.

  2. 02

    Match candidates

We assess candidates against the brief with technical interviews and practical exercises, and send you the best matches.

  3. 03

    Interview and choose

You interview the candidates and choose. We confirm the start date and the working agreement.

  4. 04

    Onboard into your team

We set up access with your IT team, and the engineer starts on the tasks your manager has planned.

  5. 05

    Review regularly

We review how the placement is going with you and the engineer, and adjust or extend it when your plans change.

Ways to work with us

Staff augmentation

Engineers and specialists who join your team, work in your tools and report to your managers.

How it works

We find engineers who match a role brief we agree with you, and you interview and choose them.

They join your team, use your tools and processes, and report to your managers.

We remain their employer or contracting party and look after pay, equipment, performance and replacement.

When to choose it

You have the management and the process, and need specific skills or more capacity.

You want direct control of the work, day to day.

The need is for a known stretch of work, such as a release or a migration.

How it is governed

Your managers direct and review the work.

Our account contact checks in with you and with each engineer regularly.

Access is limited to what each role needs, recorded, and removed when the placement ends.

Questions and answers

What is the difference between staff augmentation and a dedicated team?

With staff augmentation, our engineers join your team and your managers direct their work day to day. With a dedicated team, we provide a whole team with its own lead, and we run it day to day while you set the priorities. Staff augmentation fits when you already have the management and the process. A dedicated team fits when you want us to carry more of that.

How do you vet the engineers you place?

Our senior engineers run technical interviews and practical exercises for each candidate against your role brief. We check their past work and the kind of systems they have built. Engineers from outsourced teams go through the same assessment as our own. You then interview them yourself, and only the people you choose join.

Who manages an augmented engineer?

Your managers direct the work: what to build, in what order, and how it is reviewed. XSIS stays the employer or the contracting party. We handle pay, leave, equipment, performance support and replacement, and our account contact keeps in touch with you and with the engineer.

What if a placed engineer is not the right fit?

You interview every engineer before they join; no blind placements. If someone is not the right fit, we replace them at no cost. Tell us as early as you can, and we plan the handover so that work in progress is not lost.

Can we add or release engineers as our needs change?

Yes. You can add people when a new piece of work starts and release them when it is done. The contract sets the notice needed on both sides, so that new engineers can be found and assessed properly and departing ones can hand their work over.

Who owns the work an augmented engineer produces?

Intellectual property in the work we build for you is yours from the first commit — no assignment step at the end. The work an engineer produces for you lives in your own repositories. Any XSIS tools that existed before stay ours and are licensed to you. Each engineer signs our confidentiality terms and follows your security policies while they work in your systems.

How is staff augmentation charged?

Usually on time and materials: a rate per engineer for the time they work, or a monthly rate for a full-time placement. The rate depends on the skills and seniority of the role and on any work outside normal hours. You see the price and the timeline before we start.
