Data engineering and analytics

Reliable data pipelines, and the analytics built on them

Pipelines, warehouses, data quality and dashboards, so reports and models work from the same trusted data.

Overview

When finance, operations and sales each pull their own extracts, the same question gets three answers. Reports take days to reconcile, and AI projects start by cleaning data nobody owns. Data engineering fixes the foundation underneath.

We build pipelines that bring data from your ERP, banking, POS, CRM and operational systems into a warehouse or lakehouse, model it into tables people understand, and test it at every step. Change data capture keeps it current without loading the source systems. Every figure can be traced back to where it came from.

On top of that foundation we build the dashboards, self-service datasets and feeds that machine learning and AI systems need. Access follows your rules, sensitive fields are protected, and the pipelines are monitored so a failed load is noticed before the morning report.

What we deliver

  1. Data architecture

The target platform, how data moves into it, how it is modelled and secured, and why each choice was made.

  2. Ingestion pipelines

Batch and change-data-capture pipelines from your source systems, with retries, schema checks and logging.

  3. Data models

Clean, documented tables for finance, sales, stock and operations, built with tested transformations.

  4. Data quality checks

Automated tests for completeness, duplicates, freshness and business rules, run on every load.

  5. Access and lineage

Role-based access, masking of sensitive fields and lineage from every report back to its sources.

  6. Dashboards and datasets

Dashboards for the decisions that matter, and curated datasets your analysts can use on their own.

  7. Migration from legacy reporting

Old reports and spreadsheets moved to the new platform, with figures reconciled before the old ones are retired.

  8. Monitoring and runbook

Alerts for failed or late loads and quality breaks, cost tracking, and a runbook for your team.

How we work

  1. 01

    Assess sources and needs

We list the questions the business needs answered, the systems that hold the data and the current pain points.

  2. 02

    Design the platform

We choose the platform and patterns that fit your volumes, skills and cloud, and agree the data model.

  3. 03

    Build in slices

We deliver one subject area at a time, such as cash or sales, from source to dashboard.

  4. 04

    Reconcile and validate

We reconcile new figures against the source systems and the reports people trust today, line by line.

  5. 05

    Hand over to users

We train report owners and analysts and retire the extracts the platform replaces.

  6. 06

    Run and extend

We monitor loads, quality and cost, and add new sources and subject areas as needs grow.

Ways to work with us

Questions and answers

Which data platform should we use?

It depends on your cloud, volumes, skills and budget more than on any single product. Snowflake, Databricks, BigQuery and Amazon Redshift all work well for most companies, and PostgreSQL is enough for many. We compare the options against your requirements and existing contracts, and design so the transformations, written in SQL with dbt, stay portable.

Can you bring data out of our ERP without slowing it down?

Yes. We use the ERP’s supported extraction methods, such as its APIs, export services or change data capture from a replica, rather than heavy queries against the live database. Loads are scheduled outside peak hours where needed. For SAP, Oracle, Microsoft Dynamics 365, NetSuite and Odoo we follow each vendor’s recommended approach.

How do you make sure the numbers are right?

Every load runs automated checks for completeness, duplicates, freshness and business rules, such as debits matching credits. Before a report replaces an existing one, we reconcile its figures against the source system and the old report with your finance or operations owner. A failed check stops bad data reaching dashboards and alerts the team.

Do we need real-time data?

Only for decisions that cannot wait, such as fraud screening, stock availability or payment status. For most reporting, loads every hour or overnight are enough and cost far less to run. We use streaming with Apache Kafka or change data capture where real time is needed, and batch where it is not, and we decide per use case with you.

How do you protect sensitive data in the warehouse?

Access is role-based and follows your identity provider. Personal and financial fields are masked or tokenised for users who do not need them, data is encrypted at rest and in transit, and access is logged. We keep data in the regions you specify and apply your retention rules to raw and modelled data alike.

What drives the cost of a data platform?

Build cost depends on the number and complexity of sources, how clean they are, and how many subject areas and reports are in scope. Running cost depends on data volumes, refresh frequency and query patterns. We estimate both, design to control compute spend, and set up cost monitoring so usage does not grow unnoticed.

How long before we see the first results?

We deliver in subject areas, so the first one, such as cash or sales, reaches users well before the whole platform is finished. Timing depends on access to source systems, data quality and how much reconciliation the figures need. We agree the order of subject areas with you and plan each one after the assessment.

Who runs the pipelines after go-live?

Either your team or ours. We hand over documentation, tests, monitoring and a runbook, and train your engineers if they will run it. If you prefer, we monitor loads and quality, fix failures, handle source system changes and add new subject areas under a support agreement.

Where is our data stored and processed?

Where you decide. We agree the location of data before work starts and design for it, whether it must stay in one country, in your own cloud account or on your premises. Where data-protection laws such as the GDPR apply, we work under a data processing agreement and limit personal data to what the work needs.
